Anunobi commits to repositioning the National Library

The new National Librarian and Managing Director of the National Library of Nigeria, Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi, is committed to repositioning the apex library and putting it on par with its counterparts around the world.

Anunobi who took the floor addressing management staff in the organization’s board room, upon taking office, requested their support and cooperation, in order to achieve greater mileage for the organization.

The head of the public relations division, Mr. Vershima Orvell-Dio, in a statement Thursday in Abuja, quoted the new national librarian as saying that she believes in collaboration and teamwork.

“To that extent, everyone here is a stakeholder and together we are all a stakeholder in the success or failure of this organization.

“I, as a stakeholder, have chosen the path of success and that is why I am asking for your collaboration so that together we can succeed,” she declared.

Earlier in her remarks, Ms. Oluchi Kalu, who had served as National Librarian since August 2, 2021, welcomed Professor Anunobi and pledged the unwavering support of management and staff to the new National Librarian.

In addition, she informed her of the intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari and the Federal Ministry of Education for the completion of the permanent headquarters building, through a funding window from the Higher Education Fund.

It will be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari last week approved the appointment of Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as the new National Librarian and Director General of the National Library of Nigeria.

The appointment, which takes effect from September 2, 2021, was announced by the press director, on behalf of the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, on September 8, 2021.

She had been a lecturer on several occasions at Federal University of Technology in Owerri, Imo State University and Federal Polytechnic in Nekede.

Until her appointment, Prof. Anunobi completed her tenure as University Librarian at Federal University of Technology Owerri, FUTO in April 2021 and returned to Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka before being identified by President Muhammadu Buhari and appointed National Librarian of Nigeria.
