To celebrate World Book Day on April 23, the Embassy of Mexico in Belize and the Belize National Library Service and Information System present the ’21 para 21′ (21 for 21) collection, a conversation and reading of books by classic Mexican authors.

Every April 23, World Book Day is celebrated around the world on April 23, as it was established in 1996 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

On Friday, April 22, the Belize National Library Service and Information System and the Embassy of Mexico in Belize, through the Mexican Cultural Institute of Belize, are hosting a talk and reading at the Belize National Library Service Headquarters in Belize City.

The Mexican Embassy said the presenters will read some of the books that are part of the “21 para el 21” collection, published by the “Fondo de Cultura Económica”.

The collection was recently donated to the National Library Service in Nelize.

The Mexican writer and philosopher Óscar de la Borbolla, author of novels, short stories, essays and poetry, will be present to converse with the public and read parts of the books.

His books include Las vocales malditas and Filosofía para inconformes.

De la Borbolla was Professor of Ontology at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, the National University of Mexico.

The Mexican Embassy said the “21 para el 21” collection “was released to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the fall of the city of Tenochtitlan and the 200th anniversary of the consummation of Mexican independence, which will come true in 2021”.

Some of the books in the collection are: Los de abajo, by Mariano Azuela; Tiempo de ladrones, by Emilio Carballido; La sombra del caudillo, by Martín Luis Guzmán; Apocalipstick, by Carlos Monsiváis; and El laberinto de la soledad, by Octavio Paz.
