Columbus Public Library Offers Digital Newspaper Collection | Local


The Columbus Public Library is pleased to announce the immediate availability of its new collection of digital newspapers. Entitled Access World News, this collection is accessible to all library users and is updated daily. Access World News provides online access to current and archived issues of full-text newspapers, including Lincoln Journal Star, Grand Island Independent, and USA Today.

On the Digital Library page, users can access full-text articles from the Columbus Telegram Archive collection from 1999 to present. The Omaha World-Herald Archives are also available in text from 1983 to 2021 and in image format from 2018.

Access World News allows library users to easily search and browse news articles, editorials, reviews, birth and marriage announcements, obituaries, and a variety of special sections. Customers can use this resource for general reference or to search for local and national issues, events, people, government, education, the arts, business, sports, real estate, and more. In addition to using Access World News on library workstations, patrons can access the collection from their homes by logging in with their library card at

Access World News, Columbus Telegram Archive, and Omaha World Herald Archive are resources provided by NewsBank, the world’s leading provider of newspapers and other online news sources. Serving public libraries for more than 45 years, NewsBank provides online access to more than 12,000 titles from the United States and other countries around the world.

For library users who have never used NewsBank products before, there is a tutorial in the library’s Niche Academy. Wherever Internet access is available, library patrons can learn how to connect to Access World News, perform basic or advanced search, and browse by subject. This tutorial explains how to preview, save, and print articles.

Niche Academy offers tutorials for almost every online resource that CPL offers. Find out how to get started with Libby / OverDrive for borrowing eBooks, eBooks, Magazines, Comics, and Videos. Check out the Digital hoopla tutorial to get the most out of this collection of eBooks, Audios, and Comics, as well as streaming video and music. The Niche Academy tutorial for Libby / OverDrive and Hoopla Digital is specific to the type of content you are interested in as well as the type of device you are using.

Tutorials aren’t the only way to learn about the library’s digital collections. Library staff will be happy to help you resolve any issues you may encounter while using the digital library.
