DANCE ON THE LAWN begins performances at the Montclair Public Library

Dance on the Lawn, Montclair, NJ’s outdoor dance festival, will return this year to the lawn of the Montclair Public Library, 50 South Fullerton Avenue, on Saturday, September 10 from 3-5 p.m.

Live performances will include Nai-Ni Chen and Company, Maxine Steinman & Dancers, Abdel R. Salaam’s Forces of Nature, Sharron Miller’s Academy of Performing Arts and more. This year’s program will also include original work by William Ervin, winner of Dance on the Lawn’s 2022 Emerging Commissioned NJ Choreographer Award. Free. Full program below.

Dance on the Lawn, celebrating its ninth year, serves as a showcase and mentorship launch pad for the best choreographic talent in NJ and NY. The annual DOTL festival provides residents of Montclair and surrounding communities with a taste of emerging and established artists from New Jersey and the New York area.

Founded by Montclair resident Charmaine Warren in 2014, Dance on the Lawn hopes to increase New Jersey’s exposure to dance by bringing together professional and emerging companies, as well as dance students from across the state, to perform in a community setting. In addition to providing presentation opportunities, Dance on the Lawn has created an “Emerging New Jersey Choreographer Commissioned” and Mentor program to help support young emerging artists.

“We are so fortunate to be able to present Nai-Ni Chen and Company again at Dance on the Lawn. We were fortunate to have been colleagues with Nai-Ni, who tragically passed away in Hawaii last December. Nai-Ni has always said to us, ‘I am happy to help you.’ We are so honored to have shared so many precious moments,” said Charmaine Warren, Founder/Artistic Director and Laura Marchese, Executive Director of Dance on the Lawn.
