EDINBURGH, TX – The Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library is celebrating National Library Lovers Month and would like to invite the community to join in the fun month-long series of events.

First, tell us why you love the Library and how it has changed your life. Whether you’re new to your library’s many resources, programs, and opportunities, or were fortunate enough to have grown up visiting the library often, the Dustin M. Sekula Memorial Library wants to hear about it.

The library will hold a “I love my library” essay contest for library lovers of all ages. Four winners will be chosen, one in each category: primary, middle school, high school and adult. Winners will receive a prize and all winning essays will be featured in the library. Essays should not exceed 500 words.

Submissions must be submitted to the library’s reference department before February 28. Be sure to add your name, phone number, and age. The winning essays will be announced on March 4.

For a special celebration of Library Lover’s Day, the children’s staff will be hosting an online painting session, for children ages 5-12. Participants must register with the Children’s Department at (956) 383-6246 and registered participants will receive a kit with the materials needed for this lesson (while supplies last). The painting session will take place on Monday, February 14 at 5 p.m. via Zoom.

Blind Date With A Book, For a blind date with a book, customers will be able to view a packaged “blind date” book with just a few clues about the book on the packaging. The goal is to get customers to step out of their comfort zone and their usual favorite authors and try something new. Blind Date attendees will also have the chance to enter a raffle for a fun date basket.
