By Ruben Morales Iglesias: Department of Agriculture through Orange Walk Department of Agriculture joins Belize National Library Service through Sandy Hunter Library in Orange Walk Town hosts Summer Camp annual library service.
The summer program runs under the theme “Libraries Enduring Continuity in Times of Crisis”.
“The summer program will help encourage and show our children that planting their own vegetables means sustainability in these times,” said the Belize National Library Service.
Orange Walk’s agriculture department teaches children who attend the camp how to grow their own food.
“We want to show our kids that planting their crops and growing them organically is the best way forward. We are very grateful to the agriculture department of Orange Walk who came to show the children some of the procedures followed to have their own garden. We are also very grateful for the seeds that were provided for the children to take home and care for,” the Belize National Library Service said.
Extension agent Federico Chi works with the children of the Sandy Hunter Library to study how to create a garden, soils, seeds and food. Students plant some of the seedlings in a garden behind the library.
