Shawnee Public Library opens StoryWalk
Shawnee Public Library
The Shawnee Public Library had a great day on Saturday, April 23 as it cut the ribbon to officially open the StoryWalk® at Rotary Boy Scout Park and celebrated Earth Day with Spark a Change: Let’s Talk About the Environment with a presentation of bee music author Eileen Garvin and crafts and information from Okies for Monarchs.
Pottawatomie County Master Gardeners were also on hand to answer questions about planting to support pollinators in the yards.
State Senator Shane Jett assisted PLS Executive Director Lisa Wells and Shawnee Branch Manager Peggy Cook, as well as Leslie Gelders of the Oklahoma Library Department, as well as the Director of Public Works of the Town of Shawnee, Brad Schmidt, and many other partners and supporters to cut the StoryWalk ribbon. ®.
The StoryWalk® project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in conjunction with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.
Storywalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ferguson. A StoryWalk® is a great way to combine physical activity and literacy and get people of all ages walking and reading books to improve their literacy skills.
The Shawnee Public Library is very pleased to offer this activity to the Shawnee community.
