Here’s a great reason to celebrate in Austin’s most daring book stronghold!
In collaboration with the STEM association Latinitas, Austin artists – Carmen Rangel, Santamaria lily, Litzy valdez, Lola Rodriguez, and Véronique Céci – created commemorative portraits of women leaders of color: Dr Martha Cotera, (founding member of the Chicana Caucus), Dr Teresa Lozano Long (educator, philanthropist), Dr Bertha Sadler means (educator, defender of social justice), Sylvie Orozco (founder of the Mexic-Arte Museum), and Peggy vasquez (producer, journalist, advocate for social justice).
These illuminated mosaics – a permanent installation on the site – will be revealed on the East Pavilion outside the Central Library (710 W. Cesar Chavez) to Thu Oct 7 10:30 am.
To note: Rep. Gina Hinojosa will be there to talk about women’s leadership, and Austin City Council members Vanessa Fuentes and Natasha Harper Madison will present each leader and his portrait.
